When faced with life-altering adversity, Brad Hornung, after a brief battle with cancer, died Tuesday evening at the age of 52. He never lost his sense of optimism.

He had left quadriplegic about 35 years ago after a check-in a WHL game and has now been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

According to Dr. Ekong, Brad’s arms and legs have no sensation. From the neck down, he is entirely paralyzed. Every function below the level of the spinal cord is disrupted.

There was speculation at the time that Hornung might be bedridden for the rest of his life. Instead, he has used a wheelchair, but that has not stopped him from playing hockey.

Hornung was eventually transferred to Regina’s Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, where he has had his room for more than 30 years. While he is currently in the ICU at Pasqua Hospital in Regina, he will shortly return to his Wascana Rehab room for palliative care.

He was a regular at Pats games and worked as an amateur scout for the Chicago Blackhawks for three seasons. Later in his career, he worked for NHL Central Scouting.

He also focused on his studies, graduating from O’Neill High School and subsequently getting Campion College at the University of Regina awarded him a Bachelor of Arts in History. He also enrolled in business administration classes at the Faculty of Business Administration.
