He was a founding member of the band. Happy Mondays are a Manchester-based band. Ryder was an active member of the band for the majority of its existence, from its inception in 1983 through his death in 1997.

His band consists of Shaun Ryder, Gary Whelan, Mark “Bez” Berry, Paul Davies, and Mark Day. During his time with the band, albums such as Pills ‘n Thrills and Bellyaches sold over 350,000 copies in the United Kingdom, giving the band its greatest commercial success.

It is unknown what caused his death. According to The Mirror, Paul has acknowledged his drug addiction during his early days with the band. “It was crazy,” he stated back in 2013.

“I was 18 years old and working on an album.” I’d learned to read and write in school, but my true education began on Mondays.
