According to a band statement, the Salford-raised musician died on Friday morning. He was 58.
The band sent a statement on its official Facebook page in which it said, “The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members are deeply heartbroken and stunned to say that Paul Ryder died away this morning.”
An actual pioneer and legend. He will be greatly missed. “His funk will live on.”
Drummer Gary Whelan and guitarist Mark Day were also on the initial lineup, which was later augmented by maraca-wielding dancer Bez.
