Wanner began his career with the local side of Ravensburg after being born in the town of Amtzell in southern Germany, almost exactly halfway between Freiburg and Munich and close to the Austrian border. Bayern’s scouting network recognized his potential and signed him as a 14-year-old in July 2020. Wanner was pushed into the U16s in his first year at the club after being deemed too advanced for his own age group and was promoted to the U17s at the start of 2021/22. The attacker, who usually operates centrally but can also play off either wing, was promoted to the U19s after posting a goal and an assist in two appearances for the team. In his first nine appearances (eight as a starter) in the U19 Bundesliga South/South-West, he had two goals and two assists.

Wanner’s assured performances were noticed by the German coaching staff, and he was given his U17 debut against Poland in August 2021. Six more caps followed before a combination of injury and illness in Julian Nagelsmann’s first-team pool allowed Wanner to get a taste of professional life. Wanner made his senior debut as a 75th-minute substitute for Marc Roca against Gladbach on Matchday 18 of the 2021/22 season. Two more cameo appearances quickly followed before the youngster was rewarded with a new, long-term contract at the end of January 2022.
