Despite being a prolific artist who also worked with cloth and oil paint, Bewick is most recognized for his watercolors. For the past ten or so years, she had been working on her Yellow Man project, a significant collection of artworks that featured a cartoon-like yellow-horned creature.
In 2006, she donated to the state a group of 200 pieces, which included tapestries, wall hangings, watercolors, and sketches.
Both the Walton Building at the Waterford Institute of Technology and the Killorglin Library in County Kerry currently have these pieces on permanent display.
Bewick was born in Northumberland, England, on September 4, 1935. She and her mother Harry, as well as sister Hazel, moved back and forth between England and Ireland on a regular basis before settling in County Kerry, where she now resides and works near Caragh Lake.
She claimed that Meryl Streep, an actress, was a distant relative of her mother. Thomas Bewick, an artist, was her ancestor who lived in the nineteenth century. Throughout her career, Bewick has released a large number of books including images of her paintings as well as illustrated other books. She published her autobiography, “80: A Memoir,” in 2015 when she was 80 years old.
