He played his first three years of collegiate football at the University of Alabama, where he helped the team win the 2018 championship and advance to two straight College Football National Championships. Hurts transferred to the University of Oklahoma for his last year of eligibility.

Hurts was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft (53rd overall). In Week 14 of his rookie campaign, he took over as the Eagles’ starting quarterback, and he helped the team win four of their final six games.

Hurts led the Eagles to a 9-8 record and their first postseason trip since 2019 in the 2021 campaign. In addition to his 784 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, he finished with 3,144 passing yards and 16 touchdowns.
