Octavius was baptized by the Archbishop of Canterbury in St. James’ Palace on March 23, 1779, where he was born on February 23, 1779, in Buckingham House.
Octavius received a smallpox vaccination at the age of four. In order to provide long-lasting protection from the highly contagious illness, Queen Charlotte endorsed vaccination, which entails intentionally exposing individuals to the virus.
