Queen Charlotte, who was known as Charlotte t of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Sophia Charlotte, was born on 19 May 1744 to Duke Charles Louis Frederick of Mecklenburg and Princess Elisabeth Albertine of Saxe-Hildburghausen.

Queen Charlotte became the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland following her marriage to King George III. Queen Charlotte and King George III got married on 8 September 1761 when King George III was just 22 years and she was 17 years old. According to records, Queen Charlotte has been the longest-serving Queen Consort as she served for 57 years and 70 days.

Queen Charlotte together with King George III had fifteen children including King George IV, Prince Frederick, King William IV, Princess Elisabeth, Princess Amelia and Ernest Augustus, King of Hanover, among others.

Queen Charlotte King George’s illness

Queen Charlotte passed away on 17 November 1818 at age 74 at Kew Palace, Kew, England. The cause of her death is not known till date. However, King George III was said to have been blind, deaf, lame, and insane at the time of Queen Charlotte’s death and he also died a year later.
