A politician named Rawiri Waititi was born in New Zealand in 1981. Rawiri has represented Waiariki as the Member of Parliament (MP) since the year 2020. She is referred to as Debbie Ngarewa-Packer’s co-leader in Te Pti Mori.
After losing the 2017 general election, Te Pti Mori’s well-known member Rawiri was elected to the New Zealand Parliament, signalling the party’s return to legislative politics.
Rawiri ran for the Labour Party in Waiariki in the 2014 election. Rawiri was not included on the Labour Party ticket, hence his only chance of being elected to the assembly was to win the Waiariki seat. Te Ururoa Flavell, who presently holds the Waiariki seat, defeated Rawiri in the election.
Waititi supported the Russia Sanctions Act 2022 in March 2022, which established an autonomous sanctions regime in reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. He questioned New Zealand’s failure to denounce the United States invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as Israel’s occupation of Palestine while denouncing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
