Meet Régine Zylberberg

Régine Zylberberg was a Belgian-born French singer and nightclub entrepreneur.

 

Régine was born in Etterbeek, Belgium, on December 26, 1926. The Queen of the Night is her title.

 

Régine Zylberberg is credited with inventing the discotheque by creating a new dynamic ambiance at Paris’ Whisky à Gogo, where DJs using turntables replaced the current jukebox.

 

Régine Zylberberg became a vocalist and the manager of Paris’ Whisky à Gogo nightclub after hiding from the Nazis during World War II. At the age of 92, she died on May 1, 2022.

Régine Zylberberg was born in Etterbeek, Belgium, to Polish parents. Her first and only child was named after her father. Rotcage, Lionel.
