A volunteer Group for Hon Kennedy Agyapong has called on the Assin Central Member of Parliament(MP) Kennedy Agyapong to resign from the New Patriotic Party(NPP) and contest the 2024 elections as an independent candidate.

They argue that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been unfair to Kennedy Agyapong as a candidate in the just-ended internal election that saw Dr Mahamudu Bawumia coming tops.

They say the NPP has disappointed Kennedy Agyapong and Ghanaians by not giving him the opportunity to lead the political party to the 2024 elections.

To them, Kennedy Agyapong’s popularity amongst the grassroots puts him in a better position to become the next leader of Ghana and therefore the time has come for him to leave the NPP and contest as an independent candidate.

“All that we want to tell Honourable today is that we want him to become the next president of this country. The reason is that we the volunteer groups who campaigned across the length and breadth of the country have realized that the New Patriotic Party has been unfair to you as a candidate. We can confidently say that the New Patriotic Party has disappointed you and perhaps Ghanaians for not giving you the opportunity to lead the party as flagbearer for 2024 general election,” the group that spoke to the media said at a press conference in Kumasi.
