A journalist, television personality, and novelist from England, Richard Holt Madeley, was born on May 13, 1956. At the age of 19, Madeley started his media career in local newspapers before joining BBC Radio Carlisle as a news producer and presenter. Soon after, he relocated to the close-by Border Television where he began working as a reporter for the regional news program Lookaround. Prior to transitioning to Granada Reports in the early 1980s, he later joined Richard Whiteley to anchor Yorkshire TV’s version of Calendar.

Richard Madeley attended the Coopers’ Company School in Bow, Greater London, which has since relocated to Upminster. When he was about 14 years old, he also transferred to Shenfield High School in Brentwood.

In October 2011, Madeley was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree by Anglia Ruskin University in appreciation for his contributions to literature, entertainment, television, and the media.
