Pryor received five Grammy Awards in addition to a Primetime Emmy. He was awarded the inaugural Mark Twain Prize for American Humor by the Kennedy Center in 1998. In 1974, he received the Writers Guild of America Award, however he was ranked first, on the Comedy Central’s list of the top stand-up comedians of all time, and was voted first on Rolling Stone’s list of the 50 greatest stand-up comedians ever in 2017.
