She began playing football when she was seven years old, inspired by her two-year older sister. The following year, her family migrated to Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, and she joined the local team FC Susukino Ladies. At the age of eleven, Shimizu was a productive striker for her squad in national junior competitions.
Shimizu started her professional career with Tokyo Verdy Beleza after playing for the club as a child. Shimizu will join West Ham United in 2022. In 2018, Shimizu made her senior international debut for Japan, and since then, she has accumulated 62 caps.
In 2010, Shimizu was initially summoned to a training camp for the Japan U-14 national team. She competed in the 2011 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship in Nanjing, China, the following year. She was nominated to Japan’s U-17 national squad for the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, where she scored against Mexico in the group stage.
