Mr. Katz was supposed to receive the annual Jack Morrison Environmental Award at a San Francisco Tomorrow luncheon in May, according to Jane Morrison, the widow of the former supervisor.
They never wavered in their quest for a better environment, Morrison added, even as they became older and sicker.
She asserted that when confined to their homes, they would phone up commissioners, elected officials, and friends to support causes they thought were crucial.

Mr. Katz passed away on Friday at California Pacific General Hospital’s Pacific Campus due to heart illness.
