In the 1970s and 1980s, he became famous for his roles in comic movies which include; The Young Ones, Girls About Town, Rising Damp, The Many Wives Of Patrick, The Good Companions, Moody and Pegg and others.
After the death of the first portrayer Derek Royle, Robin became the second actor to portray Monsieur Ernest Leclerc in 22 episodes of ‘Allo ‘Allo.

According to sources, Robin died on the 7th of May 2022. In confirming the death of Robin, the family have stated that the 92 years old comic actor died peacefully.
