The “Wizard of Oz” play at the school features a youngster by the name of Rodney James. Ryan Grantham plays him in the film adaptation of the novel Diary of a Wimpy Kid. At the casting call, Rodney attempts to get the role of the Tin Man but is turned down. He is stuck playing the Shrub because there are too many kids in the play and the school has started making up parts to fill in the gaps.
Since his main responsibility is to stand still on stage, he finds a means to sneak a video game under his costume and begins playing it to pass the time while practicing.
At one point, Archie Kelly falls over him unintentionally and fractures his teeth since he was unable to brace himself with his arms. As a result, the school grants him and the other three actors permission to carve out arm holes.
