DeSantis, who was born in Jacksonville, lived in Dunedin for the majority of his formative years. DeSantis earned degrees from Harvard Law School and Yale University. DeSantis enlisted in the US Navy in 2004, rising to the rank of lieutenant before assisting SEAL Team One as an advisor and was sent to Iraq in 2007. The U.S. Department of Justice appointed DeSantis to work as a Special Assistant U.S. attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Middle District of Florida when he returned to the country a year later. He held this job until his honourable release in 2010.
