British Independent MP, journalist, and professor Rupa Asha Huq was born on April 2, 1972. She was a senior sociology lecturer at Kingston University prior to being chosen as the Labour Member of Parliament (MP) for Ealing Central and Acton in the 2015 general election. Following an investigation into alleged racist remarks made at a conference fringe event, Huq was placed on administrative leave by the Labour Party in September 2022.
Huq was born in Hammersmith’s Queen Charlotte’s Hospital in London, England, and raised in Ealing’s Brunswick Road. Rowshan Ara Huq and Muhammad Huq, popularly known as Abedul and Dulali Biswas, respectively, immigrated from East Pakistan to Britain in 1962. (since 1971 Bangladesh). Huq’s mother was from Kuthipara and her father was from Maksedpur in Pabna City. When Huq’s father decided to operate an Indian restaurant in London’s Soho, he abandoned his studies to work as an actuary for The Prudential. The restaurant closed in the early 1990s recession because the council did not renew the lease. After retiring, he started a second restaurant in Harrow.
