Sachio Kinugasa represented the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of the Nippon Professional Baseball league in Japan from 1965 to 1987 as a third baseman. Kinugasa was one of the most consistent hitters in Japanese baseball, ranking sixth in Nippon Professional Baseball in career home runs (504), hits (2543), and RBIs (1448). However, he is best known for his string of victories. He was accepted into the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996.

Kinugasa was given the People’s Honour Award for his work in the professional leagues. Before Shigeo Nagashima and Hideki Matsui, and after Sadaharu Oh, he is the second baseball player to receive the honor. Kinugasa twice qualified for the Japanese National High School Baseball Championship while playing catcher in his senior year at Kyoto’s Heian High School.
