Sharon M. Oster was an American Economist. Being the Frederic D. Wolfe Professor Emerita of Management and Entrepreneurship and a former dean of Yale University of School Management, she was the first woman to receive tenure and first female dean. She was best known for being an Economist focusing on business strategy and non-profit organization management.

Oster was born on 3 September 1948 in New York City. She got her undergraduate degree from Hofstra University in 1970 and her PhD in Economics from Havard in 1974.

After she got her Ph. D. she taught undergraduates at the Faculty of the Yale Economics Department, at Yale College. Oster took $100,000 pay cut from her salary to fund internships for students while she worked as the dean of Yale School of Management in 2009.

Oster passed away at age 73 on June 10, 2022.
