Shimron Hetmyer is the fourth and youngest of four siblings. Seon Hetmyer, his elder brother, is a former senior inter-county cricketer who later followed in his father’s footsteps. Shonette and Shonelle Hetmyer are his two older sisters.
Shimron Hetmyer began accompanying his elder brother Seon to his cricket matches at the ‘Young Warriors Club’ ground every weekend when Shimron Hetmyer was six years old. His batting skills were obvious from the start, and Shimron Hetmyer was an instant crowd-pleaser. Shimron and his brother are part of a select group of siblings who have scored hundreds at the U-19 level.
Shimron Hetmyer attended Rose Hall Estate Primary School in Rose Hall, Guyana. Shimron Hetmyer began playing school cricket at the age of nine. Later, Shimron Hetmyer transferred to ‘Berbice High School’ in New Amsterdam, where Shimron Hetmyer was named captain in tenth grade before leaving. In 2007, Shimron Hetmyer joined the ‘Young Warriors Cricket Club,’ where Shimron Hetmyer spent time learning the intricacies of the game.
