Shireen Abu Akleh is a Palestinian-American broadcast journalist who worked for the Arabic language Channel as a reporter for Al Jazeera for 25 years. She was reportedly killed on May 11, 2022, whiles involved in covering a raid on Jenin in the occupied West Bank by the Israeli Defense Forces.

Shireen was born on 1971 January 3 in Jerusalem. Her parents and family are all Arab Christians from the city of Bethlehem. Her secondary school education was at Beit Hanina and then she matriculated at the University of Jordan Science and Technology where she pursued architecture.

Radio Monte Carlo and Voice of Palestine both hired Abu Akleh as a reporter.

She also did work for UNRWA, the Amman Satellite Channel, and MIFTAH. She started working for Al Jazeera in 1997 and quickly rose to prominence as a correspondent on the Arabic-language channel.

She eventually transferred to Jordan’s Yarmouk University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in print journalism. Abu Akleh returned to Palestine after graduation.
