Shoichiro Toyoda was interested in engineering from a young age, and after graduating from the University of Tokyo with a degree in mechanical engineering, he joined Toyota in 1952.
He started his career in the company’s production engineering division, where he worked on developing new manufacturing processes and improving production efficiency. In 1967, Shoichiro Toyoda was appointed as Toyota’s managing director and became the company’s president in 1982.
During his tenure as president, he oversaw Toyota’s expansion into global markets, including the establishment of manufacturing facilities in the United States, Europe, and other countries. He also played a key role in the development of the Lexus brand, which was launched in 1989 as a luxury brand for the North American market.
