Collin Reeves is a former soldier, he used a ceremonial military dagger to stab Jennifer and Stephen Chapple severally. Their kids were upstairs sleeping at the time. He maintains that on November 21, when he killed the married couple in Norton Fitzwarren, Somerset, he was experiencing aberrant mental functioning. Earlier, Mr. Reeves admitted to the court that he had no idea why he had killed them.

Reeves, who served as a soldier in Afghanistan with the Royal Marine Corps, has been spoke about his time at Camp Bastion. He said he was inspired by the Chapples’ security light’s “dazzling white flashing illumination” making him think of flares in a combat area.
