Breyer announced his retirement on June 29, 2022, and it would take effect at noon on June 30, 2022.
Stephen Breyer appointed by?
He was chosen by President Bill Clinton to take Harry Blackmun’s place in the office. Breyer was sworn in on August 3, 1994, after being confirmed by a vote of 87-9.
Breyer earned his degree from Stanford University in 1959 before enrolling as a Marshall Scholar at Magdelen College at Oxford University. He earned his degree there with honours in 1961.
He continued his education at Harvard Law School, where he served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review before earning his degree there in 1964.
Justice Arthur Goldberg was the Supreme Court justice who Breyer first worked for in his professional career.
He had a number of government attorney roles, including chief counsel for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and assistant special prosecutor on the Watergate Special Prosecution Force.
