After collapsing in Globe Life Field’s parking lot prior to Sunday’s game against Minnesota, Ted Nichols-Payne, the Texas Rangers’ radio network engineer for nearly 30 years, passed away in a hospital. He was 56.

Over the course of her 31-year career, Nichols-Payne held various positions at CBS Radio, now known as Audacy, in Dallas. From 1995 through 2010, initially on KRLD-AM and then on 105.3 The FAN, he served as the main engineer and technical director for Rangers radio broadcasts.

When the Rangers’ English radio rights were transferred back to 105.3 in 2015, he resumed playing that job.

Ted was a skilled engineer who gave our broadcasts an exceptional level of technical quality, according to Rangers spokesperson John Blake, who added Ted’s passion and attention to detail made him such.
