Football coach Thomas Rongen, a Dutch-American, was born on October 31, 1956, and has spent the majority of his professional life in the US. There isn’t a lot of information online regarding Rongen as of the time of posting.
He was named Chief Scout of the American men’s national soccer team in December 2016. Coach of the Year honours went to Rongen, who led the Tampa Bay Mutiny to the best regular-season record during MLS’s first season in 1996.
Rongen began his playing career at Amsterdamsche FC, where he spent the years 1973 to 1979 as a defender and defensive midfielder. In 1979, Rongen immigrated to the country at the same time as the North American Soccer League’s Los Angeles Aztecs.
At Pope John Paul II High School, Rongen began his coaching career in 1984 as a boy’s assistant. He was picked to be the coach on June 27, 1986. He led PJPII to a 32-6-5 record during his tenure as coach, and he twice won the Sun-Sentinel Coach of the Year award. On May 16, 1988, he submitted his letter of resignation. He served as the soccer coach for the Plantation Eagles.
