Since 2013, Virginia’s junior senator has been Timothy Michael Kaine, an American lawyer and politician born on February 26, 1958. He was a Democrat who served as Virginia’s 38th lieutenant governor from 2002 to 2006 and as the state’s 70th governor from 2006 to 2010. In the 2016 presidential election, Kaine was the Democratic Party’s choice for vice president, running against Hillary Clinton.

Kaine was raised in Overland Park, Kansas, but he was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He went to the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, and the Harvard Law School, where he obtained his Juris Doctor, the University of Richmond School of Law before beginning his own practice and serving as a lecturer.

In 1994, he won a position on the Richmond City Council, becoming his first elected official. He was elected mayor of Richmond in 1998, and he held that position until he was appointed lieutenant governor of Virginia in 2001. Virginia’s governor, Kaine, was chosen in 2005, and he held office from 2006 to 2010. He presided over the Democratic National Committee from 2009 to 2011.

American attorney and judge Anne Bright Holton was the Commonwealth of Virginia’s secretary of education from 2014 to 2016. She was born on February 1st, 1958. She is wed to Hillary Clinton’s vice presidential running mate for the 2016 election, former Virginia governor and senator Tim Kaine.

From 2006 through 2010, Holton was Virginia’s, first lady. From 2019 to 2020, she presided over George Mason University in an interim capacity.

In 1980, Holton received a magna cum laude degree from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Holton belonged to the Colonial Club while attending Princeton.
Holton later enrolled in Harvard Law School, where she met Tim Kaine, the man she would later marry.
