Tobi Amusan Controversy

After the women’s 100m hurdles world record was broken, the World Athletic Championships have been embroiled in controversy.

Tobi Amusan of Nigeria stunned the athletics community with her semi-final time of 12.12 seconds, which was 0.08sec faster than Kendra Harrison’s 2016 record.

Twelve of the twenty-four runners in each of the three semifinals achieved new personal best timings.

Michael Johnson, a sprinting legend, questioned the timing system after a flurry of records.

On Twitter, he stated, “I do not believe 100h times to be accurate. World record shattered by.08! Twelve PBs set. Set five national records. And Cindy Sember’s statement following her PB/NR: “I truly was running slowly!” All athletes appeared stunned.

“We were first shown the winning time of 12.53 in Heat 2.” Several seconds later, it displays 12.43. Rounding down to the nearest cent is common, but rounding down to the next tenth is not.”
