Amusan came back the next day on a livelier Hayward track to break the world mark that Kendra Harrison had achieved in 2016 in London with a time of 12.20 seconds.

This record had been held by Harrison since 2016. After that, she went on to record an incredible time of 12.06 seconds with a wind assist of +2.5 meters per second in the final, which helped her win the gold medal a little under two hours later.

Amusan exploded out of the blocks in the first of the three semi-final heats, where she was racing, to establish an early rhythm on her way to dominating the competition, which included the previous holder of the world record, who is an American by the name of Kendra Harrison.
