Two office facilities have been commissioned to serve as the Odorkor Divisional Police Command and the Divisional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU ) of the Ghana Police Service.
While one of the buildings is a renovated facility, the other is a newly constructed building which has been named after the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. James Oppong Boanuh.
The projects initiated by the Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr. Baffour Nyamekye Appenteng and the District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police, Mr Douglas Kumah were undertaken with financial and technical support from Zen Petroleum, Sunda Investments, CP Concrete Products, KABFAM Ltd, and other companies operating in the jurisdiction of the command.
Commissioning the buildings on behalf of the IGP Mr Oppong Boanuh, the Director General Welfare, Commissioner of Police (COP) Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo Dankwa said it was part of efforts to resolve the logistic constraints of the Ghana Police Service.
She commended the companies and individuals who supported the projects and said effective policing on contemporary crime prevention strategies remained a collective responsibility of the police and the public. The Odorkor Divisional Commander, Mr Appenteng said the projects were initiated eight months ago after he assumed office and undertook an appraisal that found gaps in the operational structures and administrative requirements of the division.
He said the lack of office accommodation affected the personnel in effective discharge of their duties while the commander and personnel shared a washroom with visitors.
The Retail Director of Zen Petroleum Mr. Prince Awuley said the support was in line with the company’s corporate social responsibility to give back to the community.
