In 2021, he made his first MLB appearance. Tyler was a freshman and sophomore at University High School in Morgantown, West Virginia before being transferred to Yucaipa High School in Yucaipa, California.
Tyler was selected in the Rule 5 draft by the Baltimore Orioles on December 10, 2020. He was named to the Opening Day roster in 2021.
Tyler made his MLB debut in relief against the Boston Red Sox on April 4, 2021, tossing a scoreless ninth inning. Wells appeared in 11 games (eight starts) as a freshman at CSUSB in 2014, going 1-5 with a 4.30 ERA, then as a sophomore in 2015, he went 2-4 with a 4.93 ERA in 12 starts.
