The goal of the UdeM exemption scholarship program is to assist candidates from abroad with their academic pursuits. They may be eligible for a tuition fee exemption from what is typically assessed to international students beginning in the fall of 2020. Scholarships will still be awarded for the winter, summer, fall, and winter sessions of 2024–2025.

Encouraging the brightest students from throughout the globe to enroll in one of the best francophone research universities on the planet is the aim of this program. Consequently, by enhancing the cultural richness of the Université de Montréal community, these international students will contribute to the accomplishment of our educational goal.

Who is eligible to receive funding under this program?

International students are eligible for the UdeM exemption scholarship, except for French-speaking students in Belgium. To qualify, the applicant must:

  • Have been granted admission to a study program at UdeM starting in fall 2020 and possess current study authorizations for each session of their program.
  • Be enrolled full-time and consistently (unless the permitted absence is granted)
  • Not receive any other type of tuition fee exemption for the duration of their study program not enroll in an independent study program.
  • Not be accepted into any of the following undergraduate programs, beginning with the Winter 2024 session: minor, major, certificate, short program, and year-long university preparation program.

The UdeM exemption scholarship could be revoked if any of the aforementioned requirements are not met.

Benefits

For Undergraduates

The only assessment factor used to calculate the scholarship’s worth is your outstanding academic record. The transcripts submitted with the admissions application are the basis for this evaluation.

The assessment’s findings will establish how much you might be eligible for. You will not be eligible for the UdeM exemption scholarship if, following the assessment, your file is not found to be eligible for either level A or B.

  • Level A: $13,340.40 every year for two sessions equal to thirty credits, or $6,670.20 for each session (15 credits), or $444.68 for each credit.
  • Level B: $211.92 for each credit, or $6,357.60 per year (2 sessions, or 30 credits) or $3,178.80 per session (15 credits).

Benefits for Masters Students

An overseas student may be eligible for a partial exemption scholarship, which will spare them from paying the additional tuition fees that are often associated with their study.

  • Non-research: $10,474.65 annually for three sessions or 45 credits; $3,491.55 for each session, or 15 credits; or $232.77 for each credit. The $30,829.50 annual tuition fees (45 credits) are applied to this amount.
  • Research: $10,347.75 a year for three sessions (equal to 45 credits) or $3,449.25 for each session (15 credits) or $229.95 for each credit
  • Research (beginning with the fall 2024 session): $15,149.70 annually (3 sessions, or 45 credits), $5,049.90 annually (15 credits), or $336.66 annually per credit

This sum is applied to the annual tuition fees of $29,592 (45 credits).

Benefits for PhD

There is a full waiver of the additional tuition fees often assessed to students from abroad to support you in your graduate studies.

The same tuition costs that apply to graduate students in Québec might be applied to you with this exemption bursary.

How To Apply

1. First, know your deadline

To apply for this scholarship, applicants must take note of the deadline to not exceed the timeline for applications.

2. First take a look at the requirements in this article to check if you are eligible and can apply.

3. Applications must be done online; you can click the link Bourse d’exemption UdeM pour étudiants internationaux – Bureau du registraire – Université de Montréal (umontreal.ca).

3. To begin the assessment, accept the admissions offer.

4. It is not necessary for you to apply for a UdeM Exemption Scholarship. The eligibility and amount of the exemption scholarship awarded to new candidates will be determined after an evaluation of their files.

5. Get the award notice including the amount awarded. The amount of the scholarship to which you are eligible will be sent to you by email as soon as the Université de Montréal receives your admissions offer.
