Van Conner, a bassist for the Screaming Trees from Apple Valley, California, was a famous American rock musician. Conner attended Ellensburg High School where he played bass and received his education. With the addition of singer Mark Lanegan in 1985, Conner’s band, Explosive Generation, which he founded with his brother Gary Lee Conner and Mark Pickerel, became Screaming Trees.
The group relocated from Ellensburg, Washington to Seattle in the late 1980s to become a part of that city’s developing alternative rock scene. Conner collaborated with Screaming Trees on seven studio albums before the group disbanded in 2000. While playing in Screaming Trees, Conner started the side project Solomon Grundy, where he sang lead and played the guitar. Conner joined the live lineup of Dinosaur Jr. around the same time that band released an album in 1990. Conner established the Gardener side project, which issued an album in 1999.
