During his playing years, Viktor Slesarev played as a defender and a midfielder. He played for teams like FC Shakhtyor Kumertau, FC Stroitel Ufa, SKA-Khabarovsk, FC Stroitel Ashkhabad, SKA-Khabarovsk and FC Zvezda Perm. From statistics, he scored four goals for his eleven years of being active in playing football.

Viktor Slesarev retired from playing football in the year 1979, he was then with FC Zvezda Perm. In the year 1984, he began with his coaching career with FC Zvezda Perm being the first team he coached. He retired from coaching in 2006.
