Watch ‘blow-for-blow fight between Ken Agyapong & Muntaka in parliament

3news.com reports that A fight nearly broke out in parliament Wednesday morning between Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong and minority chief whip Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak.

The firebrand MP, who faces impeachment over alleged contemptuous acts, accosted Muntaka Mubarak in the chamber of the House and rained invectives on him for apparently leading a campaign to drag him before the parliamentary privileges committee.

But for the timely intervention of some few MPs who restrained the Assin MP and Alhaji Muntaka, the two would have physically assaulted each other.

The incident happened just before parliamentary proceedings could begin Wednesday.

“You, I will face you till i die. Tell Ghanaians how you were sacked. What happened that you were sacked as a minister? I’m not done with you today,” Mr. Agyapong vowed as he threatened to deal with Muntaka.

But Muntaka who equally appeared ready for a face-off with Mr. Agyapong, responded “Kwasia, gyimigyimi, aboa ba. I’m waiting for you; you think you are foolish?

The incident comes on the back of a complaint by Alhaji Muntaka to the Speaker of Parliament Tuesday against Mr. Agyapong whose conduct he said was in contempt of parliament.

Alhaji Mubarak on resumption of parliament Tuesday told the House the Assin Central MP’s conduct has dragged the name of the House into disrepute and must be summoned before the Privileges Committee.

He argued Mr Agyapong incitid the public against undercover journalist Ahmed Hussien-Suale few months before he was shot dead at Madina in Accra

“Mr. Speaker, I make this complaint of contempt of parliament against my own colleague, Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, for the embarrassment and the uncalled-for comments and incitement of the public against a member of the public which was alleged to have led to the death of that person”, he said.

He referred to Article 112 of the 1992 Constitution which talks about contempt of parliament and argued Mr. Agyapong’s actions was clearly in breach of that for which reason he wants the him brought before the house for questioning and possible sanctioning.

Alhaji Muntaka also noted that while the action of Mr Agypong also have criminal implications, which the courts must deal with, the code of conduct of Parliament must also be applied on him by virtue of the fact that he is a member.

Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu agreed with the minority chief whip and also suggested Mr. Agyapong be hauled to the privileges committee.

In view of that the Speaker referred him to the committee to determine the matter as to whether Mr. Agyapong is in contempt of parliament.
