A Scottish serial killer and sex offender who was sentenced to life in prison at HM Prison Edinburgh for three murders committed between 1991 and 2006, Peter Britton Tobin (27 August 1946 – 8 October 2022) died there. Police suspect, Tobin was also responsible for the killings of additional girls and women in addition to these three crimes.

Tobin was sentenced to ten years in jail for a double rape that occurred in 1993 before his first murder conviction, and he was eventually freed in 2004. He was given a life sentence with a minimum of twenty-one years’ incarceration for the 2006 rape and murder of Angelika Kluk in Glasgow, which occurred three years after his release. Later, the remains of two adolescents who vanished in 1991 were discovered at his previous Margate, Kent, residence. Tobin was found guilty of killing Vicky Hamilton in December 2008, leading to an increase in his mandatory minimum sentence to thirty years, and Dinah McNicol in December 2009, leading to a whole life order.
