Former Welsh international rugby fly-half Philip Bennett OBE has died. Following the announcement of his demise, there are many condolences pouring in and many have also sent their tributes via the internet.

Phil Bennett who has passed away at the age of 73 will always be remembered for his roles as one of the biggest names in Wales rugby and widely known as a very skilled player.

Earlier in April this year, a statue was unveiled in his honour in his home town of Felinfoel in Carmarthenshire.

The statue is to honour him for being a great influence in sports. He will always be remembered for his running abilities and agility when playing.

What did Phil Bennett died of?

Phil Bennett has died after a long battle with illness. Announcing his passing, Scarlet Rugby tweeted. His career spanned from 1969 to 1978.

Though it is reported that his passing is a result of illness, there are currently no details about the illness he suffered from.
