William Muecke Barker, a well-known American judge, was born on September 13, 1941. Barker passed away on April 3, 2023. He was 81 years old.

In 1967, Barker graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. He later served in the United States Army Medical Corps before starting his own company in 1983.

Barker was selected for the court that year by Governor Lamar Alexander, and he later served on the Tennessee Supreme Court. On October 4, 2005, his fellow judges named him chief justice.

According to the “Tennessee Plan,” Chief Justice Barker and the other judges were eligible to run again in an election in August 2006.

Thankfully, they were all voted in unanimity to spend an additional eight years. Associate Justice Janice M. Holder succeeded Chief Justice Barker when she resigned in 2009. Before his death, he worked for a short time as a counsel for the Chattanooga law company Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel.
