The conclusion of Pacheco and Kurt Busiek’s Arrowsmith: Behind Enemy Lines announced in June 2022 that the sequel, Arrowsmith: Beyond Borders, would be postponed due to the lads’s shared well being issues.
According to Busiek, Pacheco suffered from paralysis in his right leg, which was subsequently discovered to be the result of a minor, difficult-to-detect spine fracture that squeezed the nerves leading to his leg. Pacheco also suffered from migraines, the treatment for which had reduced his productivity.
Busiek stated that Pacheco was recovering after a successful spinal surgery that was expected to take 8 to 12 months, and that the fracture was identified before any long-term nerve damage occurred.
