Sunak has a younger brother named Sanjay and a younger sister named Raakhi. Sanjay is a doctor of psychology, and Raakhi is the chief of strategy and planning at the United Nations Global Fund for Education in Emergencies in New York.

Sunak received degrees from Oxford, Winchester College, Lincoln College, and Stanford University. During his summer break, Sunak worked as a server at a curry restaurant in Southampton.
