What happened to Gary Moeller?

From 1990 until 1994, Moeller led the Michigan Wolverines as head coach, taking over for the late Bo Schembechler. Prior to that, Moeller served as the defensive ends coach, defensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, defensive coordinator (again), and offensive coordinator for Schembechler.

Moeller also served as the head coach of Illinois for three years from 1977 to 1979.

Moeller started his coaching career at Miami (Ohio) under Schembechler, but he also had the distinction of having played linebacker for Ohio State, a rival team, where he was a co-captain and three-year letter winner.

For two years, Moeller served as the tight ends coach.

His son, Andy Moeller, followed in his father’s footsteps by first participating at Michigan and then serving as a position coach for the Wolverines from 2000 to 2007.

Moeller won the Big Ten three times while serving as head coach in Ann Arbor for five years, compiling a 44-13-3 record.

Former University of Michigan football team coach Gary Moeller passed away at the age of 82. Apparently, he died of an unidentified ailment.
