What happened to Melissa Lucio twins?
Lucio was expecting twin boys at the time of Mariah’s death and interrogation. She gave birth to twins in incarcerated and was forced to give them up for adoption.
In 2007, Lucio’s family was preparing to move out of their second-floor apartment in Harlingen, Texas’ Rio Grande Valley.
Many of her children were placed for adoption, while others were separated and transferred to live with relatives or placed in state custody. Bobby Alvarez, whose little sister died when he was seven, detailed how he “cried every night wanting my mama back” after she was taken away.
In January 2022, Cameron County officials signed a warrant for Lucio’s execution. The date of her execution has been scheduled for April 27, 2022.
After her execution date was established, Lucio petitioned for clemency. If a majority of the Board of Pardons and Paroles approves it, Governor Greg Abbott may grant clemency.
