National Administrative Professionals’ Day, also known as Secretaries Day or Admin Day, honours the individuals who ensure that an office runs smoothly on a daily basis.
Every year, on the Wednesday of the last full week of April, we honour these professionals. Secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists, and other administrative support professionals are honoured on this day.
These professionals are essential to any business because they keep the office organized and efficient.
How Administrative Professionals Day Came About
Due to the Depression-era birth rate decline and the booming post-war business, the United States faced a shortage of skilled administrative personnel during World War II.
The National Secretaries Association was founded in 1942 to recognize administrative personnel’s contributions to the economy, support their personal development, and help attract workers to the administrative field.
In 1981, the name was changed to Professional Secretaries Week, and in 2000, it was changed to Administrative Professionals Week to reflect the expanding responsibilities and diverse job titles of administrative support staff in today’s economy.
The week-long observance was devised to spread out bookings at restaurants, country clubs, and other locations where administrative professionals would be taken out to lunch.
