American pitcher for the New York Mets of Major League Baseball, Jacob Anthony deGrom was born on June 19, 1988. (MLB). DeGrom attended Stetson University and competed for the Stetson Hatters in collegiate baseball before beginning his professional career.

deGrom began his baseball career as a shortstop before converting to the pitcher during his junior year at Stetson. He was selected by the Mets in the ninth round of the 2010 MLB draft and made his MLB debut on May 15, 2014. DeGrom was named National League (NL) Rookie of the Month twice that season, as well as NL Rookie of the Year.

DeGrom went to Calvary Christian Academy, a tiny school in Ormond Beach, Florida, where he played baseball and basketball. As a basketball player, he was named the Florida Athletic Coaches Association’s District 9 Class 1A player of the year and was named to the Class 1A all-state third team.
