Kyrsten Lea Sinema, an American politician, and the social worker was born on July 12, 1976. Since January 2019, she has served as Arizona’s senator, and since December 2020, she has been the state’s senior senator. She served three terms in the Democratic Party’s 15th legislative district as a state representative from 2005 to 2011, one term in the same district as a state senator from 2011 to 2012, and then three terms in the Democratic Party’s 9th congressional district from 2013 to 2019.

Sinema won the 2018 Senate election to succeed Jeff Flake, who is leaving town, by defeating Republican challenger Martha McSally. In 2012 and 2018, respectively, she won elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, becoming the first openly bisexual and the second openly LGBT woman (after Tammy Baldwin). She also represented Arizona as the state’s first female senator.

In a 2019 analysis by the nonpartisan organization GovTrack.us, moderate Democrat Kyrsten Sinema was classified as the 47th most conservative senator. Among Democrats, Sinema is seen as a centrist.
