Kiffin was employed by Colorado State when he landed a one-year position as a quality control assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars. As the tight end coach at USC in 2001, Lane Kiffin started working there.

Kiffin worked two years as the wide receivers coach starting the next year. For the 2005 season, Lane Kiffin was promoted to the positions of offensive and passing game coordinator.

Lane Kiffin is one of the three sons of his parents. He was born to an American couple called Monte Kiffin, a former American football coach and Robin Kiffin, his mother. Chris Kiffin is one of his brothers who is also a former American football coordinator.
