The children attended Phoenixville Area High School since they grew up in Phoenixville. When the Los Angeles Dodgers, who were led by his father’s buddy Tommy Lasorda, visited Philadelphia, Piazza had his first taste of professional baseball by working as a bat boy in the dugout. Ted Williams, a member of baseball’s Hall of Fame, gave Piazza one-on-one tuition in his backyard batting cage when he was 12 years old. He kept on working out with his father every night. Following his high school graduation in 1986, Piazza relocated to Florida to enroll at the University of Miami. However, after seeing little action with the Hurricanes baseball team, he ultimately decided to transfer to Miami-Dade Community College.
