What is the most poisonous tree in the world?

The manchineel tree, Hippomane mancinella, which is found in brackish ecosystems in northern South America, the Caribbean, and Florida, must receive this dubious honor.

It produces an apple-like fruit with sap that is eye-popping poisonous and when in touch with human skin, can result in serious blisters.

All portions of the manchineel tree are exceedingly poisonous, and “contact with and consumption of any part of this tree may be deadly,” according to the Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.

Manchineel is a member of the expansive and varied Euphorbia genus, which is also home to the festive poinsettia.

The tree secretes a thick, milky liquid that drips from the bark, leaves, and even the fruit and can result in severe blisters that resemble burns if it comes in touch with the skin.
